Check the player’s equipment.
A route can be geographically connected but still blocked by a material or tool requirement. Capability checks account for that difference.
Unity mining puzzle game
Procedural mining puzzles with equipment progression, resource management and interacting environmental hazards.
The idea
Mining, heat, cargo and equipment progression create connected choices. The interesting problem is not simply producing random terrain: a generated level needs to be reachable and compatible with the player’s capabilities.
Core systems are implemented, while visual content, interface polish and scene integration remain in development.
How it is built
Definitions describe materials, upgrades, objectives, rooms and biomes.
A room graph and separate random streams create reproducible levels.
Reachability and equipment checks identify impossible routes before accepting a level.
C# systems in Unity handle terrain damage, cargo, upgrades, objectives and environmental behaviour. Data definitions allow more content to be added without rewriting each mechanic.
Design decisions
A route can be geographically connected but still blocked by a material or tool requirement. Capability checks account for that difference.
A recorded seed lets the same level be recreated when investigating a bug or refining a challenge.
Heat, support, fluids and hazards create consequences for the player’s approach, rather than isolated effects.
Save migration code and tests provide a route for older player data to survive changes to the profile format.
Development & updates
The project’s EditMode tests exercise core systems, generation and progression. Seed-based stress tests examine level validity across many generated cases, while migration tests check changes to saved profiles.
These checks make individual rules easier to change and investigate. The next product milestone is an integrated, visually clear playable slice with scene, interface and platform behaviour validated together.
What this demonstrates
The same thinking can be applied to a different industry: understand the real workflow, connect the right systems and give people clear control over what happens next.
